BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A Pittsburgh-area health club that was the site of a mass shooting four years ago has added security after a patron was found carrying two guns in his gym bag.

The man wasn't charged, but he was committed for a mental health evaluation after officials with LA Fitness contacted Collier Township police on Sept. 4, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ( http://bit.ly/1eDnzGi) reported Wednesday.

Police were told the man, a member of the gym, was harassing an employee, and officers found the guns after questioning him, police Chief Thomas Devin said. Police aren't identifying the man because he wasn't charged.

He had a permit to carry the guns, which were registered to him. He was involuntarily committed to a mental health facility but was released Friday after doctors examined him, the chief said.

On Aug. 4, 2009, George Sodini from nearby Scott Township fatally shot three women and wounded nine others during an evening aerobics class at the club before fatally shooting himself. Investigators determined Sodini, 48, had difficulty relating to women and apparently carried out the shooting in furtherance of a grudge against them.

A woman who answered the phone at the health club Wednesday declined to comment on the latest incident.

Chief Devin said he's posted an on-duty officer at the club during business hours.

"They want us there for the time being," Devin said.

LA Fitness has revoked the man's membership and some other businesses in the same strip mall had previously banned him, Devin said. Police intend to ban the man from the entire shopping center.
