LONDON (AP) - Prosecutors say they are charging a senior British Conservative Party politician with sex offenses.

The Crown Prosecution Service said Tuesday that Nigel Evans will be charged with the offenses against seven men, which allegedly took place between 2002 and 2013. The charges include two counts of indecent assault, five counts of sexual assault and one count of rape.

The 55-year-old Evans, who was arrested May 4, has resigned from his position as deputy speaker of the House of Commons, but insisted he will continue working as a lawmaker.

He reiterated to reporters Tuesday that he was not guilty and that the complaints were "incredulous."

He is due to appear in court on Sept. 18.
