NEW YORK (AP) - The father of a teenage New York City remote control helicopter enthusiast who was struck and killed in by the aircraft he was operating says his son was a great pilot.

Roman Pirozek Sr. tells the Daily News ( http://nydn.us/18J18cA) Friday his son was also a great friend.

On Thursday, police say 19-year-old Roman Pirozek Jr. was pronounced dead in a section of a Brooklyn park designated for remote control helicopter flights. The teen had been struck in the head and killed by the helicopter he was operating.

The elder Pirozek acknowledged operating the helicopters was a bit dangerous, adding it was also an expensive hobby.

A tearful Pirozek told the paper his family still didn't know what caused the fatal accident.
