JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) - A man initially identified as a suspect in a Rhode Island double homicide and mentioned in a related nationwide Amber Alert has been cleared of wrongdoing and released from custody.

Police on Sunday said 22-year-old Malcolm Crowell was a suspect in the killings early Sunday morning in Johnston, R.I. The Amber Alert had said he abducted 2-year-old Isaiah Perez from the home where two women were shot to death.

Crowell was arrested later Sunday while at work in Fall River, Mass.

On Monday, police said Crowell was not involved at all in the crime and actually tried to help police find the boy. Perez was found unharmed Sunday night.

The slain women were identified the boy's mother and sister. The sister was Crowell's girlfriend.
