SEATTLE (AP) - An examination of the giraffe born Tuesday at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle reveals that it is a boy.
The zoo says the 6-foot tall calf is nursing normally and seems to be doing well. He'll be 18 feet tall when fully grown.
The zoo says he'll be named privately.
His mother is 6-year-old Olivia. The only other giraffe at the zoo is Olivia's sister, Tufani.
The father was Chioke, who died in January at the age of 7 from stomach and kidney problems.
Zoo officials estimated the calf would be following his mother out of the barn in a week or two and will be introduced into the African Savanna exhibit in a few months.
