LONDON (AP) - U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns is in Cairo for talks about the ongoing political crisis that has led to bloody violence in Egypt.
It is unclear if Burns, who arrived on Friday, will be able to meet with former president Mohammed Morsi, who hails from the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Egyptian army has kept Morsi in hiding since ousting him in a July 3 coup.
This is Burns' second visit to Cairo since the coup.
Earlier, he met with interim leaders, but he spoke only by phone with an official with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Burns is joining officials from the EU and others in the region who share the goal for a successful transition in Egypt.
