Dealing with the potential danger of sharks is a fact-of-life if you're a surfer, but scientists have designed new types of camouflage wetsuits designed to make humans invisible to sharks. By studying shark vision, the researchers came up with these certain patterns: one makes the person blend in with the ocean. The other mimics the pattern of very venomous sea creatures. These suits are available for pre-order for about $400.
The Teddy Guardian is a new child-friendly medical device for kids. It's a stuffed bear filled with sensors to measure everything from a child's heart rate, to temperature and blood pressure. Then, you can send all that data to a medical professional. We know that children's vitals can be off if they're nervous and scared to go to the doctor. With Teddy, even a parent could take vitals while the child is still calm.
Disney Research has a new way to tell stories. It's a smartphone projector system that can bring storybooks to life. They use infrared ink that is detected by an infrared camera. It kind of works like augmented reality. As you shine the character on to the page, it reacts to it's storybook environment. Disney also envisions using this idea for future board games. For now, it's just a prototype and it's called 'Hide-Out'.
