This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Do you remember that TV commercial some years ago when a guy was talking about electric razors and said, "I liked it so much, I bought the company?" Well, that's kind of like the story told to me by Orville Thompson, president of Scentsy, a great growth company in Meridian.

Scentsy provides an alternative to candles. Its signature product, the Authentic Scentsy Bar, has no wick, so you don't have top worry about fire, smoke or soot. The company offers a wide variety of exclusive ceramic "warmers" that are designed to enhance any room's dŽcor. Some of the warmers are sophisticated, some whimsical, some seasonal and some topical. Each warmer is a receptacle for authentic Scentsy wickless candle bars. Much more fragrant than votives, tarts or wax chips, one scentsy bar will outlast most jarred candles twice its size. The company also offers room sprays and car "candles" so that you can enjoy the great Scentsy aromas in your car, closet or hotel room.

The Scentsy Warmers use a 25-watt light bulb to heat the soft wax of the Scentsy Bar. As the warmer begins to melt the soft wax, it releases a rich, deep aroma into the air without burning the wax. You can select luscious lemons, spring flowers, spiced orange harvest or, perhaps appropriate for this time of year, fresh-baked pie or evergreen bows. There are 86 wonderful fragrances available each season.

The founders of Scentsy are two Utah women entrepreneurs, Kara Egan and Colette Gunnell. When Orville Thompson heard about the company and its unique marketing possibilities, he approached the founders initially to buy some of the products, and then he decided to buy the company.

That was in the spring of 2004. Scentsy has since experienced dramatic growth. There are now more than 4,200 consultants all over the United States and 135 employees in the 45,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Meridian and the satellite distribution facility in Chicago. This year, sales volume will exceed $10 million.

Orville tells me that Scentsy makes "perfect Scents." It does indeed!
