Consumer Reports Warns Against Gift Cards

Tom Callan, KSL Newsradio Consumer Reports is urging you to have second thoughts before you sneak a gift card into the Christmas stocking.

A recent survey found that 62 percent of us will purchase gift cards this season. But this shopper views them as some sort of corporate, capitalist plot. "They're ludicrous presents. You're only lining the pockets of corporations," she said.

Consumer Reports says last year $8 billion in gift cards collected dust because no one checked the fine print. The group says the cards are "often loaded with fees, expiration dates, and other hassles."
