SALT LAKE CITY -- The Joseph Smith Memorial Building, formerly the Hotel Utah, is celebrating 100 years.
The Hotel Utah opened on June 9, 1911 and remained open as the famed hotel for 76 years. It closed in 1987 and reopened in 1993 after an extensive renovation as the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
It has hosted every U.S. president from Taft in 1912 to Reagan in the ‘80s and celebrities like Jimmy Steward, Kate Hepburn, Liberace, and Ella Fitzgerald.
Pictures and an opportunity to share lesser-known stories about the hotel are available at the website www.hotelutah100.com.
Stories and photos submitted to the website will be on display in the building's lobby throughout June of this year and online.
