SALT LAKE CITY -- The Joseph Smith Memorial Building, formerly the Hotel Utah, is celebrating 100 years.

The Hotel Utah opened on June 9, 1911 and remained open as the famed hotel for 76 years. It closed in 1987 and reopened in 1993 after an extensive renovation as the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

Birthday Party
On June 9, 1911 the Hotel Utah opened its doors for the first time. The public is invited on June 9, 2011 to celebrate 100 years of the building. Birthday cake will be available in the lobby from 9 am - 9 pm.

It has hosted every U.S. president from Taft in 1912 to Reagan in the ‘80s and celebrities like Jimmy Steward, Kate Hepburn, Liberace, and Ella Fitzgerald.

Stories and photos submitted to the website will be on display in the building's lobby throughout June of this year and online.
