What’s up with the Department of Motor Vehicles? I mean seriously? Ok, so I feel a little like Seinfeld, but my recent trip to the DMV quite literally made me want to put my head through the wall.

I was a little slow, but after being roughly a year and a half I needed to go and take the test for my Utah Driver License. Knowing they would need it, I took everything I could possibly ever need to prove my existence, short of a urine sample and blood test----I was however ready to roll up my sleeve if need be. To be quite honest I almost had to.

The problem with all this apparently, is my British heritage. I was born and lived in England until the age of 12. So as you would imagine I have a Birth Certificate that is of the United Kingdom kind. Also with me I had my Social Security card, credit cards, old gas bills, 4 different Press ID’s, my military ID (I served in the United States Army). So I’m thinking this should be easy.

Think again. I was told my Birth Certificate was NOT VALID!! Sort of an unsettling thing right? Being told the record of your birth doesn’t work! And this took a while as the guy is going back and forth to his supervisors with every record of my life and coming back with the same answer.

“Sorry man, this isn’t going to work.”

Towards the end he says (as there are 20 pieces of ID on the counter),

“Do you have anything else?”

And at this point I start to freak out a little bit. Maybe I won’t be able to legally drive in Utah because my Birth Certificate and all the other forms of ID won’t work? And then I thought, maybe I will have to get a Driver Privilege card instead?

That being said, I have had great luck with the DMV otherwise. The lines in Utah are much, much shorter than anywhere else I have lived, and the people do actually seem pleased to work there. Which, ya know, helps.

Other than that life is pretty groovy. It has been a while since I blogged, and I did get engaged (when in Rome right? ;). Her name is Jaime and she is absolutely wonderful and far too good for me. Honestly, anyone who knows both of us knows that to be the truth!!

I switched back to the Afternoon shift a couple of weeks ago also ( I know you all noticed).
