Just in time for the May 4 celebration of its 1,000th cover, Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner has tapped a new publisher for his flagship magazine.
Tim Castelli, currently the associate publisher of lad's magazine Maxim and earlier a group publisher at Ziff Davis, takes over the post that was held by Steve DeLuca, who exited in February.
The deal comes in time to fill an embarrassing breach.
Wenner is putting a 3-D cover on the 1,000th issue and has sold the back page, also in 3-D, to Target for about $1.5 million.
Wenner had shrunk the celebration from a $1.5 million bash and concert in Rockefeller Plaza to an estimated $500,000 bash at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
The smaller party was at least part of the reason for DeLuca's sudden exit. He was irked that he had sold a more elaborate bash to marketers initially.
The issue, packed with 140 ad pages, hits on May 5.
