Pop fiction author Anne Perry has a new book on the shelves at Henderson County Public Library featuring her Victorian character, police officer William Monk. Here are some details about "Dark Assassin" and other new books:

Fiction

"Dark Assassin" by Anne Perry -- While on patrol near the Waterloo Bridge, Inspector William Monk, a superintendent with the Thames River Police, and his men witness the deaths of a young couple, but as Monk tries to determine if the deaths were the result of an accident, suicide, or murder, he stumbles into the middle of a conspiracy with ties to the highest levels of government.

"Second Honeymoon" by Joanna Trollope -- Distraught when her youngest son, 22-year-old Ben, plans to leave home, Edie, an actress, and her theatrical agent husband, Russell, are faced with an empty nest for the first time, until their older son Matthew, upset about earning less than his successful girlfriend, and daughter Rosa, wrestling with debt and a failed love affair, plan to move back in.

"Terror Town" by Stuart M. Kaminsky -- Struggling to protect the streets of Chicago at the side of his partner, Bill, detective Abe Lieberman works to discover a common link between a baseball player whose career has been cut short by tragedy, a religious fanatic who employs unorthodox conversion methods, and a murdered single mother.

"American Theocracy: The Perils And Politics Of Radical Religion, Oil, And Borrowed Money In The 21st Century" by Kevin Philips -- A former Republican strategist and long-time political commentator evaluates today's political climate and the inherent dangers posed by such factors as global over-reach, religious fundamentalism, and ballooning debt, in an account that draws on historical examples while making cautionary predictions about America's growing vulnerability.

The Henderson County Public Library's hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The library is closed today, however, for Easter.
