What makes the wind?

Deb L.

*************************************************

We sure do have our windy days in Utah in the springtime, especially ahead of powerful cold fronts.

What makes the wind blow is the difference in air pressure. You hear us talk about low pressure and high pressure, the difference between the two causes the wind to blow. Wind flows from regions of higher to lower pressure. Also, the distance between the high and low pressure determine how fast or slow it blows. This force is also called the pressure gradient force.
