This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

According to Utah Division of Water Resources, in Utah, 65 percent of our water use goes to the lawn, and they say half of that water goes to waste. Information like this has inspired Liz Haigh and Kim Hutton with their garden and landscape company, Xeriscape Design.

When you hear their company name, Xeriscape Design, you may think they don't think lawn is a good design idea, but that's not the case. Liz and Kim, who bought the company in 2006, like to incorporate drought-tolerant turf where it makes sense, along with beautiful flowering Utah native and water-wise plants.

The years of experience they bring to the table are evident in their design and build out, specific to their clients' needs and likes. Liz and Kim like to educate their clients as they take it from start to finish so when they design your yard, they do it with the intention of taking their clients through the entire process.

Xeriscape Design is word of mouth only, and it keeps this company hopping. During their busy season, which is starting about now, they have eight employees who are focused on designing and installing a beautiful yard that has some lawn and beautiful drought-tolerant plants that are bee friendly. They also design with the idea of using fewer chemicals. Xeriscape Design is also big on drip irrigation because of the money and water savings, not to mention the ease of staying on top of your yard. They want you to spend less time having to work in your yard and more time enjoying it.

Since Utah is the 2nd driest state, we should be aware of the residential lawn watering guide the Division of Water Resources provides. This is especially important since we live in a desert and have one of the highest uses of water per capita in the U.S. Rain water harvesting is another area Xeriscape Design is developing.

Xeriscape Design had a delighted customer tell them her yard now attracts hummingbirds, bees and even a lizard.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
