Scientists hope a new contraceptive pill which does not carry an increased risk of breast cancer will be available in the next five years. The current combined pill carries a higher risk of breast cancer. Researchers at the University Of Edinburgh in Scotland - led by Professor David Baird - also believe the new pill could be used to treat
endometriosis and fibroids, and might cut the risk of thrombosis for older women who are overweight or smoke. The pill stops periods completely and works by blocking the hormone progesterone. (GES/WNWCCB)
