CHICAGO, Mar 26, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Most U.S. women have a dress size in double digits, but now sizing has gone in the opposite direction with a size of 00, as in extra, extra small.
Banana Republic debuted a 00 on its Web site for spring, while J. Jill and Old Navy now offer XXS, for extra, extra small, The Chicago Tribune reported Sunday.
However, many clothing manufacturers and retailers have a different way of sizing -- one manufacturer's size 12 may be another's size 10 -- so while some may be addressing the gymnast-size woman, others may be just "vanity sizing."
Vanity sizing allows baby boomer women to not address aging and gaining weight and they can pretend they are still size 6.
Therefore, a woman who wore a size 10 in the past, might fit into a 6 today, all without losing a pound, so this has pushed sizes toward zero, or double zero.
