Utah voters - are you ready for the voucher battle?

With the primary election over, and the November 6 campaign beginning in earnest, get ready for an all-out effort to convince you, the voter, to favor one position or the other. Advocates on both sides of the voucher debate will use appealing radio and television spots, slick newspaper ads and glossy mass mailings, as well as creative Internet approaches to sway your thinking.

Be prepared! It is going to get intense.

The battle has national implications with voucher supporters and detractors across the land getting involved. Media reports say some groups are pouring millions of dollars into the campaign.

With this in mind, KSL urges each Utah voter to take the time to consider the merits of the voucher bill they'll be approving or rejecting. Look beyond the abbreviated rhetoric and one-line sound bites that will inundate various media. Learn what the voucher measure allows and what it doesn't; who is affected and who isn't; how it would impact public schools and the majority of Utah students who will always attend them.

With the voucher vote, much is at stake - not just in Utah, but for the nation. As Utahns, let's strive to make an informed decision.
