LATEST: The writer of a book questionning MICHAEL JACKSON's innocence of child molestation charges, sexuality and drug habits admits he was glad the project was axed - because the Jackson family are "unreal".

The explosive manuscript, written in collaboration with the singer's brother JERMAINE JACKSON, was obtained by the New York Daily News yesterday (05MAR06) - but ghostwriter STACY BROWN reveals it was shelved more than two years ago after Michael read it and "went ballistic".

In it, Jermaine reportedly questionned the pop superstar's innocence as he faced child molestation charges, which he was found not guilty of in 2005. He also slammed his brother as a drug and drink abuser with "a thing for young children".

But the literary venture was scrapped - much to Brown's relief - after an enraged Michael got hold of a copy.

Brown says, "The experience of writing the proposal... and then having Michael go nuts, Jermaine crying, and the family going into chaos mode was draining and weird, and one that I wouldn't want to deal with again.

"Jermaine decided not to go forward with the book. In a way I'm glad none of this happened. I don't want to be affiliated with them anymore."

He added the experience exposed "how out of touch, unreal, unrealistic and dysfunctional" the family is.

LEGACY: SURVIVING THE BEST AND THE WORST would have been Brown's second study of the THRILLER hitmaker. He is the co-author of MICHAEL JACKSON: THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK. (SH/WNWCDN/GES)
