LONDON, Feb 21, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The stars of "The Road to Guantanamo" were detained by London police after returning from the Berlin Film Festival where the film won an award.
The six actors who portray British inmates at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention camp were stopped by police Thursday at London's Luton airport under the British Terrorism Act, the BBC reported Tuesday.
One of the actors, Rizwan Ahmed, said he was verbally abused by police, who took his cell phone and asked if he was going to make any more political films.
British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom's movie tells the story of three British men who went to Pakistan to arrange a wedding and wound up in the detention camp as terrorism suspects. They were later released without charges.
A police spokeswoman confirmed the actors were detained for a time at the airport, but told the BBC "this is something that happens all the time and obviously at airports and train stations."
Film producer Melissa Parmenter called the detention outrageous and the human rights group Reprieve has demanded an immediate investigation into the "ugly farce."
