This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Overwhelmingly the largest state in the U.S., Alaska is a land of vast wilderness, towering mountain ranges and some of the most diverse plant and wildlife in the United States. It's home to the tallest mountain in North America, Mount McKinley, at over 20,000 feet, and has some of the best fishing you'll find.
That's why Dr. Mark Warner founded his Bountiful company, Doc Warner's Alaska Fishing Adventures. With a doctorate in Fisheries Biology, he spent enough time in Alaska that people started approaching him about helping coordinate their vacation. This went on for 17 years and became popular enough that in 1998 he turned it into a formal business.
Doc Warner's Alaska Fishing Adventures now has a lodge 35 miles west of Juneau with a capacity for 65 guests. The company's objective is to not only give their clients access to some of the world's best salmon and halibut fishing but also to create a place to build family memories. They will coordinate all aspects of a guest's stay and offer three options for what type of fishing someone wants to do. This is a major word of mouth business with 90 percent of guests return customers or referrals.
Over the years one of the things that has helped this business the most is using guest feedback to improve the experience. That's why next year they're expanding their range of services so you have "more ways to do it your way." This will include making arrangements for other Alaska experiences like seeing glaciers, taking nature hikes or watching bears fish.
The feedback from their customers has been outstanding. One client said he'd had a good time but the experience was beyond anything he'd expected. In another instance a woman came expecting to be bored sitting out in the boat while her husband fished for hours every day. Instead, she was awed by the beautiful scenery and wildlife. Her group loved the experience so much they now come back to Doc Warner's Alaska Fishing Adventures every three years.
