This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
A transplant from New York, Jeff Fargo of Fargo's Drive-Thru in Santa Clara, felt like he was living the dream . . . until his business burned to the ground.
The end of June last year Jeff got the dreaded phone call at 1 a.m. informing him his mom ‘n pop burger restaurant was on fire. Three hours later it had burned to the ground.
Jeff and his family had to think long and hard about what to do next. Should they re-build? This was a stressful and emotional time for them to say the least. The dream was to be part of a smaller community and to show their support by being involved. So . . . with that in mind they rebuilt Fargo's Drive-Thru and reopened in January last year, just six months after the fire.
The motivation is to be the hang out for the school kids, and Jeff walks his talk by painting the inside of Fargo's gold, hunter green and navy, for the Snow Canyon High warriors.
Social media is another important part of Jeff's business model. Fargo's Drive-Thru now has 1,900 fans on their Facebook page. This is important to the owners because they like to test out products or a new promotional campaign. Social media is also critical since nearly 90 percent of 18 to 34-year-olds use social network sites, along with 69 percent of adults ages 35 to 49, and 41 percent of adults over 50.
One of the business concepts is that tax is included in the prices for all products. To show support for the high school kids, they have a dollar menu from 11 a.m. to noon. On Saturday nights you can go to Fargo's and order the well-known Fargo's Favorite with pastrami, bacon and Swiss cheese while you sing karaoke.
Fargo's Drive-Thru is a great example of triumphing over any obstacle. Jeff is very open to feedback, and the St. George Spectrum recently called Fargo's Drive-Thru Southern Utah's best fast food restaurant.
