Tonight is a first of its kind - a presidential debate in which the questions will be posed by individuals who submitted them in video format ala YouTube. Can you imagine sitting in front of your computer and recording yourself asking Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama a question? "Uh, Senator Obama, I'd just like to know (Kids! Pipe down!)are you as annoyed with Senator Clinton as the rest of the world seems to be?"

I am continually amazed at how YouTube has changed my world. My 14-year-old introduced the web site to me a year or so ago. We have regular sessions now when he shows me what's hot on YouTube, and then he updates me on how many people have viewed his own submissions (Cameron's Scooter Crashes.) I check YouTube somewhat regularly now as part of my job. I need to know what's on YouTube so I can tell you, so we can learn about our world together.

And tonight YouTube takes over a presidential debate. We've known for quite some time that YouTube can profoundly affect the news, how stories are driven by video submitted to YouTube, how the story IS what's submitted to YouTube. I look forward to the day when there is more listener driven content on KSL. I believe there is a place for all of our voices, sharing what we see and observe, responding to the world through our own unique eyes. I am quite sure that your questions of newsmakers I interview would be as good as or better than mine. I would like the ready vehicle for you to be able to pose them.

Just thinking out loud - which I guess is what YouTube is all about.
