This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
We Americans love our pets so much we spend billions of dollars each year taking care of them. Did you know that in 2010, Americans spent an estimated $48 billion on their pets? Some of this revenue can be attributed to Kaye Davis and Jessica Turquette of Moab Barkery.
This store specializes in providing anything you might want for your dog or cat including premium food, natural treats, training or outdoor gear, household supplies or even pet-related gifts. And if you're not sure what food to get, Kaye and Jessica are knowledgeable and can help. They have a series of questions they ask a pet owner to determine what type of food is best . . . and it's not always the most expensive.
One of the trends they've seen lately is customers becoming more aware of what's in their pet food and trying to purchase a better quality product. They recently brought in a line of pet food that uses only regionally-sourced ingredients. They expected it to move slowly, but it's quickly become one of their top sellers. This is because owners want to provide a more holistic product for their pets.
Since purchasing the Moab Barkery two years ago, sales have increased 20 percent each year. Jessica and Kaye attribute this to being able to cater to a local client base. In January they brought the first self-serve dog wash to Moab, and their customers love it! They've also spent a lot of time managing other businesses and have learned what it takes to be successful.
Here are just a few examples of the great work these business owners are providing. They had a couple customers whose dogs were both sick and on allergy shots but didn't seem to be getting better. Moab Barkery helped them transition to a better diet, and this completely fixed their allergy problems. They also write a weekly article for the Moab newsletter that's making dogs healthier and their owners happier.
Pets all over Utah can thank Moab Barkery for their important work.
