Measures to put a stop to the sale of advance copies, proofs and manuscripts of books on websites including eBay have been announced by publisher Random House.
According to Publishing News, the company has issued a warning to its staff stating that "the unauthorised sale of company property" is taken very seriously and may be a disciplinary matter.
In addition the publisher revealed that any copies of books which are distributed outside of the company will contain notices making it clear that they are not for resale.
Random House also stated that it is to closely monitor sites such as eBay for items including advance copies, proofs and sales material.
