WASHINGTON, Jan 9, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- David Rosenbaum, a longtime editor and reporter for the New York Times, has died of injuries he received during a Washington robbery at age 63.
Rosenbaum was robbed Friday night near his District of Columbia home. He received a serious head injury that required emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain, the Washington Post reported Monday.
He died Sunday night at Howard University Hospital.
Police said Rosenbaum's wallet was taken, and his brother said the family received a call Saturday indicating that an effort had been made to use a credit card belonging to Rosenbaum. Little else is known of the attack.
Rosenbaum joined the Washington bureau of the New York Times in 1968 and, with the exception of three years as an editor in New York, had spent his entire Times career there. He retired late last month but was to continue contributing to the Times.
Rosenbaum's survivors include his wife, two children and two grandchildren.
