Santo Domingo (dpa) - A 33-year-old woman in the Dominican Republic gave birth to sextuplets Tuesday.

Doctors at the Hospital General Plaza de Salud in Santo Domingo said the babies, three girls and three boys, weigh between 800 and 1,200 grams.

The parents of the sextuplets, 33-year-old Emilio Figuero and his wife Maxima had opted for artificial insemination, hoping that the procedure would result in giving birth to a second son for the couple.
