London (dpa) - Kate Moss, the British top model whose reputation has been tainted by drug abuse, is to appear in a television advert promoting mobiles for the Virgin group.

The deal comes after Moss, 31, lost several lucrative contracts with leading fashion houses after she was pictured snorting cocaine by The Mirror newspaper.

A spokesman for Virgin Mobile, part of the business empire of multi-millioniare Richard Branson, said the model would "poke fun" at her public image in a "rare" speaking role in the commercial.

Virgin Mobile brand director James Kydd said: "Kate Moss is an icon. We are thrilled that she has agreed to appear in our latest commercial."

Moss spent 30 days in a drug rehabilitation clinic in Arizona after the scandal blew up.

She has lost contracts with H&M and Chanel and Burberry. Make-up manufacturer Rimmel decided to retain her.

The advert will first be broadcast on British television on Christmas Eve.
