London (dpa) - Oscar-winning South African actress Charlize Theron is to play the new Bond girl in the upcoming remake of a Bond classic, Britain's Daily Mirror tabloid reported Monday.

The attractive 30-year-old has been offered a lucrative deal to star opposite new Bond actor, Britain's Daniel Craig, in the remake of "Casino Royale", the Mirror reported.

Filming of Casino Royale is scheduled to start January in Prague.

The blonde South African was director Martin Campbell's first choice for the role, the paper said, quoting film industry sources.

Theron won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2004 for her portrayal of American serial killer Aileen Wuornos in "Monster".

If the report is confirmed, Theron would follow in the footsteps of former Bond girls such as Halle Berry, Teri Hatcher and Ursula Andress.
