Vienna (dpa) - One of Austria's best-known novelists, Milo Dor, died in hospital in Vienna on Monday aged 82, according to an announcement by the Austrian Writers Federation "IG Autorinnen und Autoren".

It said Dor had already suffered a heart attack in the summer, from which he had not fully recovered.

The author, who was born in Budapest, grew up in Belgrade, and spent his later years in Vienna and Rovinj in Croatia, described himself as "an Austrian, Viennese, and European of Serbian heritage".

His best-known works include a trilogy, "The Raikow Saga".

Dor was a former president of the Austrian Writers Federation, honorary member of the Austrian Pen Club, and holder of major Austrian prizes in the arts and literature.
