CHICAGO, Nov 22, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A group of Hurricane Katrina relief workers in the audience for Oprah Winfrey's "My Favorite Things" were lavished with the "things" featured.
"Nobody can repay you but I wanted to at least try," Winfrey told her studio audience in Chicago.
The recipients received luxury items such as UGG boots, video iPods, Burberry coats, Ralph Lauren cashmere sweaters, Sony Vaio laptops and diamond-studded watches.
"Nobody deserves it more than these true American heroes," Winfrey said as she doled out the goodies.
But at least one recipient, registered nurse Peggy Jindra of Mattawan, Mich., told the Kalamazoo Gazette she is not going to keep the booty.
"I absolutely didn't expect anything or want anything," Jindra said Monday after watching the show taped Nov. 12.
She said she plans on selling most of the items and using the money to make Christmas merrier for two families she met in a Louisiana medical evacuation camp.
