This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
After talking to Audrey Collman it was clear to me how this animated woman has been in the physical fitness business for so many years: she has energy and to spare!
She's now "younger than springtime" and is just as involved with her Ogden company, Li'l Audrey's Health Spa USA, as ever. She opened Li'l Audrey's in 1964 and now says, "My whole life is here."
She loves what she does and considers customers as extended family. She also likes to see the changes they make because of her personalized exercise, diet and healthy food preparation tips. In June she was also the recipient of a 2010 Lifetime Celebration Award.
A mother of five, she knows just how hard it can be to fit exercise into an already full schedule. This is probably one of the reasons why only 32 percent of adults say they participate in leisure time physical activity and studies indicate that in only 40 years one in three Americans could be suffering from diabetes. To make it easier, she has a nursery on site so clients can focus on the programs she designs for them instead of what their kids are doing.
Audrey was raised to pay her bills on time and has never brought in a partner. Her mentor was a doctor. Her husband, the chief scientist at ATK Thiokol, custom designed many features of the Ogden health club which is known for fabulous figures, fitness and fun.
This is not a typical gym. Not only does it have bright purple carpets, also purple machines to match. There are live classes and flat screen TVs that play Audrey's patented fitness programs.
Some of Audrey's customers have been coming to her for over 40 years now. She has totally bought into the idea that aerobic exercise is the way to keep weight off. She also appreciates the benefits of good exercise and health and is, without a doubt, a pioneer in the fitness movement.
She's certainly not someone you meet every day.
For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
