FAR HILLS, New Jersey, Nov 17 (AFP) - Groundbreaking ceremonies were conducted here Thursday for the renovation of the US Golf Association museum, a center bearing the name of golf legend Arnold Palmer and set to open in 2008.
The Arnold Palmer Center For Golf History will feature the group's 13 original championship trophies, the history of US championship events plus research and storage rooms.
"Its like winning the (US) Amateur, Open and the Senior Open all at once," Palmer said after learning the center would bear his name.
"Its like winning another Open. Im very flattered. I dont think you can put words to how important it is to me as an individual. When I was a kid, it was my family and God and the USGA. That was kind of the way I was raised."
Palmer joined USGA officials in overturning ceremonial clumps of sod to start the process, with construction set to begin in 2006.
