TOKYO, Nov 15, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Japan's Princess Sayako married Tokyo metropolitan government employee Yoshiki Kuroda at a Tokyo Hotel Tuesday morning.
It was the first marriage of a daughter of a Japanese Emperor to a commoner in 45 years.
With her marriage to Kuroda, Princess Sayako, the only daughter of Emperor Akihito, will leave the Imperial Family and relinquish her imperial title.
Twenty-three royal family members attended the Shinto-style wedding, including Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako, and Prince and Princess Akishino.
During the ceremony, Princess Sayako wore a long, white dress with a pearl necklace, and Kuroda a black tuxedo with a silver tie. The couple exchanged nuptial cups and offered sacred tree sprigs and Kuroda read the marriage oaths in the 20-minute ceremony.
