NEW YORK, Nov 6, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A Pakistani woman who was gang-raped to punish her brothers urged more aid for victims of the Kashmiri earthquake as she ended a U.S. tour.
Mukhtar Mai also said the United States should halt arms sales to Pakistan, the New York Times reported.
After Mai was raped by order of a village council in 2002, she fought back against her attackers in the courts. Her actions brought her international renown.
During her two weeks in the United States, Mai testified before the Congressional Human Rights Caucus and spoke at a college and an Islamic Center. Her final appearance was at New York's Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. She received an award and $20,000 from Glamour Magazine on Wednesday.
She promised to donate $5,000 of Glamour's money to earthquake relief.
