Press releaseOGDEN -- The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises motorists that eastbound Interstate 215 in North Salt Lake will close Saturday night August 28, to Sunday morning August 29, to make repairs to the concrete surface of the roadway.
Beginning at 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, eastbound traffic on I-215 will be diverted on to the Legacy Parkway, while crews replace sections of the roadway with pre-cast concrete slabs. During this diversion, the northbound Legacy Parkway will be temporarily open to all trucks. This closure and diversion will remain in place until 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 28, when eastbound I-215 will reopen to all traffic, and trucks will again be prohibited on the Legacy Parkway.
UDOT crews and contractors have developed significant expertise at quickly repairing concrete roadways by saw-cutting and removing damaged sections of the roadway, and replacing them with exact-sized pre-cast concrete slabs. Large sections of a concrete roadway can be repaired efficiently and quickly through the use of this technique. In most cases, the pre-cast slabs are quickly placed into the spot prepared for them, and traffic can be restored to that section of the roadway in a matter of a few hours. This is one more example of the efforts UDOT is making to avoid traffic delays and congestion from road work, by using these kinds of techniques during off-peak travel times.
Westbound traffic on the I-215, between the ramp from southbound I-15 and the Legacy Parkway junction with SB I-215, will be unaffected by this closure. This work could be postponed in the event of inclement weather, equipment problems or product shortages.
