The situation is so fluid at BYU these days that by the time this introductory blog appears, BYU may have bolted the Mountain West Conference, become an independent, leave that and formed its own conference. It may even be one of like minded, faith-based schools like TCU, SMU, Notre Dame, Boston College, St. Joseph's and Holy Cross that could be named for the two highest priorities of the member institutions, Church & Television Ratings, or the CTR Conference.

BYU could even help promote the new venture by providing rings for each school.

I've been as stunned by the news of BYU possibly going the independent route as anyone.

Frankly, I think it's exciting.

That is partly why I agreed to participate and be a part of CougarNation!

My purpose will be to add my unique insight as a former BYU student athlete who played in the NFL, lives back east where I work in the media, serve in leadership callings in the Church and is still closely connected to the program.

What I won't do is break stories.

The Deseret News has that market cornered with the people like Dick Harmon, Jeff Call and Brad Rock.

As a television sportscaster and radio talkshow personality in Philadelphia for nearly two decades, I have strong opinions and certain biases. You can't survive in Philly if you don't.

Do I have opinions on going independent? Who should start at QB? The Honor Code? Missions? Recruiting?

Yep. You might even guess right on what my opinions are on some of them. But you may be surprised I don't always toe the company line in some areas. If I feel strong enough about certain issues, I will express it.
