PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct 13, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Jack White has died of an apparent heart attack in West Barnstable, Mass., at age 63.
White disclosed in the Providence, R.I., Journal in 1973 President Richard M. Nixon had underpaid his taxes, prompting the president to utter, "I am not a crook."
Nixon eventually agreed to pay almost $500,000 in back taxes and White won a Pulitzer for his reporting.
Rescue workers were unable to revive White after he suffered a heart attack at his home Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital, the Providence Journal said Thursday.
At the time of his death, White was chief investigative reporter WPRI-TV in Providence and host of the station's "Newsmakers" show. He went to WPRI in 1985, after reporting jobs at The Providence Journal, Boston's WBZ-TV and The Cape Cod Times.
White is survived by his wife, a daughter, three sons, five grandchildren and four sisters.
