Dan Littledyke has always held a deep affection for pizza. He wanted to learn all about pizza-making and began experimenting at home. Some recipes were more successful than others, but he began developing a repertoire of original creations.

In 1979, he opened the first Godfather's Pizza in Logan. He worked for the company for a number of years, opening stores all around the valley, eventually even working in the corporate office in Omaha, Neb. He managed the Rocky Mountain area that encompassed 105 stores. Several years later, he left Godfather's Pizza to work for Mrs. Field's Cookies on the product development team. In 1989, the former Summit Inn building in Kamas went up for sale and he purchased it with the intention of opening his own business.

Summit Inn Pizza and Ice Cream operated as a combination pizza parlor and bed and breakfast for five years until Dan changed it to become what it is today: a pizzeria and ice cream shop.

Dan has adopted the slogan, "The Only Pizza Worth Eating." Summit Pizza has a wide selection of pizzas with dough and sauce made from scratch daily. They're cooked in ovens specifically designed to create a hard-baked pizza taste. Of course, the mainstays are the basic cheese and pepperoni pizzas, but customers love the chicken pizzas, including chicken barbecue to chicken Caesar. Diners searching for a healthier option might enjoy the thin-crust margherita with tomatoes, mozzarella, a light drizzle of olive oil and fresh basil leaves.

This year, Summit Pizza received the Best of State Award for Family Pizza, which Dan says has been great for his business. He is always open to the idea of expansion but he wants to keep growth controlled. He also believes in giving back to the community and not only sponsors community events but also offers a reading incentive program in which elementary school children receive free mini-cheese pizzas for fulfilling reading requirements.
