During the Great Depression, times were hard. Many people were out of work, including Pete Neerings. After Pete had lost his job, he looked for other means to support his family. His good friend, Dan Gardner, owner of the Dan's Foods stores, gave him $100 to start his own business, so Pete formed a plumbing company in 1935.
Pete and his three sons operated Neerings Plumbing for many years and watched their small Salt Lake City company steadily grow. Pete's son, Ted, eventually bought out his two brothers and operated the company until 1985, when he passed it on to his son, Troy.
Today, Neerings Plumbing is a plumbing, heating, air conditioning and electric service company. Technicians are licensed journeymen and continue to train in weekly meetings. The company responds to plumbing, heating, air conditioning and electric emergencies, repairs and replacements. Troy says Neerings Plumbing also provides beautiful bathroom remodels and installs and services water softeners, boilers and solar-energy systems.
One of the company's most popular offerings is planned service agreements, a program that sends technicians to a client's home two to four times per year to service their air conditioner, furnace and water softener. Troy tells me his company often receives compliments for how clean and prompt technicians are. They wear shoe covers and lay out red carpets to protect the client's home while in it.
Because many families have busy work schedules and can't call a plumber during regular business hours, Neerings Plumbing has technicians on call in the early mornings and late evenings. Troy says the company has wonderful customers and hopes to not only sustain those relationships but also develop new ones while maintaining high-quality products.
