Little did Nick Widdison know that his love of buying and selling online would lead to the launch of a company that sells all over the world.
In 2003, Nick was working full-time for Widdison Turbine Service, his father's water well company. He started his own business on the side with about $3,000 he had saved up. He used his savings to purchase Subaru products directly from Japan, and although it took longer than he had anticipated, he eventually sold the items through eBay and local Internet forums. Within two years, his small company had grown so much that he moved into a facility in West Jordan. Nick's rapidly growing business, known as RallySport Direct, continued to expand. In 2008, he moved to a larger facility in Bluffdale where the company currently operates.
RallySportDirect.com retails and resells after-market performance parts and racing equipment to the rally car community. The company's primary product selection is Subaru-based but it also carries other brands such as Mitsubishi, Mazda, Honda, and Nissan. Products include performance upgrades, safety equipment and everyday maintenance equipment. RallySport is one of just a few companies worldwide that keeps such rare products in stock. The company sells a small portion of its products locally, but the majority is now sold both nationally and internationally.
One of the company's primary concerns over the years has been finding an effective order management system. Nick is in the process of creating a new website with seamless integration and order automation to ensure accurate orders and customer satisfaction. His goal is to become the premiere online retailer for after-market auto products.
In the past seven years, RallySport Direct has grown from a small, one-man local operation into an international brand with 10 employees. Nick feels his company is distinguished by the broad inventory selection it keeps on hand and a strong focus on continuously improving the customer experience.
