(Washington-AP) -- New details are emerging about the condition of former P-O-W Jessica Lynch, who remains hospitalized in Washington.

According to The Washington Post, those who have seen Lynch say she remains traumatized and dazed, but is making progress. They also say Lynch has recently talked on the phone with friends and sent e-mails from a laptop.

Lynch is recuperating from a head wound, a spinal injury and a number of bone fractures after her Army unit was ambushed in Iraq back in March.

The Post reports that Lynch's bones have been put back together with an extensive network of rods and pins. It can take her an hour to move from bed to wheelchair.

But a hospital spokeswoman notes that Lynch recently walked more than 100 steps using a walker.
