(Baghdad, Iraq-AP) -- Some of the rejoicing by residents of Baghdad is being offset by continued fighting in the Iraqi capital.
Members of the First Marine Expeditionary Force have been battling holdout Iraqi fighters in northeast Baghdad. A U-S Central Command spokesman says members of the Third Infantry Division are staging armored raids within the city.
C-N-N reports gunshots and explosions were heard around the University of Baghdad, where smoke rose over the campus after an apparent firefight.
Civilian casualties have reportedly increased since American forces arrived in Baghdad. At one hospital, doctors report receiving more than 30 bodies and 250 wounded people.
