SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The taxpayer-funded defense team for the man accused of kidnapping Elizabeth Smart has added another attorney.
The addition last week of Vernice Trease is the second time Brian David Mitchell's counsel has changed this year.
Kimberly Clark has been leading Mitchell's defense team since January, when former lead attorney David Biggs quit to enter private practice.
The new addition means that seven defense attorneys are now working on Mitchell's case.
The prosecution team includes Kent Morgan, Clark Harms, Jeff Hall and Alicia Cook.
Fifty-one-year-old Mitchell and his wife, 58-year-old Wanda Barzee, are accused of kidnapping Elizabeth from her Federal Heights home in 2002. She was found nine months later with the couple in Sandy.
