The state Senate on Tuesday approved two bills backed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that would take junk food out of California schools.
SB 12 would replace high-fat snacks in school vending machines with healthier food, while SB 965 would ban the sale of soft drinks at schools. Sen. Martha Escutia, D-Whittier, wrote both bills.
