Hosts, performers ready for Broadway gala

NEW YORK, Sep 06, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Christina Applegate of "Sweet Charity" and John Lithgow of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" will emcee this year's Broadway on Broadway free concert.

More than 50,000 people are expected in Times Square to attend the annual event at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 18, Playbill reported Tuesday.

Among the many scheduled performers will be the casts of "All Shook Up," "Avenue Q," "Beauty and the Beast," "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "Hairspray" and "Lennon."

The concert will also offer previews of "The Color Purple" and "In My Life."

The concert is produced annually by The League of American Theatres and Producers and the Times Square Alliance.
