Man United signs American goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce from OL Reign

Manchester United's women's team has signed American goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce from OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League. The 26-year-old Tullis-Joyce previously played in Europe with French club Reims. United did not specify the length of the contract or value of her transfer. England international Mary Earps is United's current first choice goalkeeper. She has been linked with a move to Women's Super League rival Arsenal after winning the Golden Glove at this year's Women's World Cup but will remain at United until at least the January transfer window.

Four Real Madrid youth players questioned by police over private video

Four youth players from Real Madrid's "B" and "C" teams have been questioned by police after a complaint that they allegedly spread a private video via WhatsApp. Madrid says that "when the club has detailed knowledge of the facts" it will "take the appropriate measures." One player was from Madrid's "B" squad and three from the "C" squad. Both squads are made of mostly of youth players. Madrid did not give any other details. Spanish media says the players were accused of spreading a video of a sexual encounter involving a minor.

João Palhinha signs new deal with Fulham after nearly moving to Bayern Munich

João Palhinha extended his contract at Fulham on Thursday, tying him to the club through the 2027-28 season less than two weeks after he nearly joined Bayern Munich. Palhinha's new deal includes an option for the Premier League club to add an extra year. The Portuguese midfielder arrived in Munich for a medical check at Bayern on Sept. 1 but no deal was completed before the transfer window closed at the end of the day. He says he has "100% commitment" to Fulham.

Kyle Walker has signed a contract extension at Manchester City until 2026. The England defender's future had been in question after links with a move to Bayern Munich during the last transfer window. Those doubts were ended after confirmation of an extension for the 33-year-old Walker. He joined City from Tottenham in 2017. Walker has won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups and four League Cups in his time at the club. He has won 15 trophies in total at City and made 260 appearances. He has also played 78 times for England.

Arsenal says chief executive Vinai Venkatesham will leave the club next summer. Venkatesham has been with the Premier League team for 14 years in different roles. Venkatesham has held numerous positions at Arsenal including managing director and chief commercial officer. He became chief executive in 2020. He has overseen the club's return to the Champions League for the first time in six years after finishing runner-up to Manchester City in England's top division last season. It has been 19 years since Arsenal last won the Premier League but it has emerged as the leading challenger to City under manager Mikel Arteta.

The players who won the Women's World Cup for Spain are still in revolt one day before their new coach announces her first squad. Spain's players renounced playing for their national team three weeks ago after former federation president Luis Rubiales refused to step down after kissing a player on the lips at the World Cup awards ceremony. He eventually resigned this week. The federation had already fired unpopular coach Jorge Vilda and replaced him with Spain's first female coach for it senior women's team. But the players have also asked for "structural changes." The best the federation can say is talks are ongoing.

Manchester United says Jadon Sancho will train away from the first-team squad because of a "discipline issue." Sancho claimed on social media that he had been made a "scapegoat" after being cut from United's squad for its 3-1 loss to Arsenal earlier this month. Manager Erik ten Hag had said the forward was dropped from the Arsenal game because of his performances in training. Sancho did not mention Ten Hag in his post on X but it was widely regarded as a response to his manager's comments. He said he would not allow people to say things that were "completely untrue."

Spain's Women's World Cup winning coach Jorge Vilda has been left off the short-list of nominees for the annual FIFA awards, a week after he was fired following an international uproar in the wake of the final. Vilda was not among five candidates for the Best Women's Coach Award for 2023. Spain forward Jenni Hermoso, who was kissed by now-disgraced and ousted Spanish soccer federation president Luis Rubiales after the final, is one of four Spain players who are among the 16 candidates for the women's player of the year award. Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are among 12 candidates for the best men's player award. Six Manchester City players are nominated.

Referee Yoshimi Yamashita will return to Qatar to make more soccer history at the men's Asian Cup in January after she worked in the country last year at the men's World Cup. The Asian Football Confederation has picked Yamashita and Katherine Jacewicz of Australia among the referees. The assistants selected are Makoto Bozono and Naomi Teshirogi of Japan and Kim Kyoung Min of South Korea. The 24-team Asian Cup will be played mostly in the same stadiums as the men's World Cup. Yamashita was the fourth official for six group games at last year's World Cup.

The players in Spain's women's soccer league have called off a strike after reaching a deal to increase minimum wage. The first set of games was not played last weekend because of the strike. This weekend's matches will now go ahead as scheduled. The deal will increase the minimum salary from $17,100 to $22,500. The strike coincided with the scandal caused by Spanish soccer federation president Luis Rubiales when he kissed a national team player on the lips without her consent during the Women's World Cup awards ceremony. Rubiales has since resigned.

Neville witnessed the prejudice Scott and other women contend with. Scott says discrimination is commonplace on social media for women in soccer. Her account received five times more sexist responses than Neville's during the experiment.
