ESCALANTE, Utah (AP) -- U.S. Forest Service officials say a wildfire burning 11 miles west of Escalante is now 80 percent contained.
Officials say firefighters made significant progress on containment line around the Corn Creek fire Thursday. Full containment is now expected by Saturday night -- a day earlier than projected.
Fire fighters will spend Friday doing mop-up work and removing hazardous trees from the fire area. Road closures remain in effect near the fire area.
The fire, which was ignited four days ago by a car fire, has burned about 3.5 square miles of timber and grazing lands in the Dixie National Forest.
