VERNAL -- Formal charges have been filed against a Vernal Junior High School teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.
Norman Bernard, 57, faces five counts of forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony, and four misdemeanor sex abuse charges in connection with the alleged relationship, which prosecutors say lasted for three months when the victim was 13. They say Bernard was the girl's drama teacher at the time.
Bernard has been placed on administrative leave. He is currently being held on $132,400 bail.
