High school football returned to the state on Friday, providing plenty of excitement and surprises. Timpview saw its 36-game winning streak come to an end, while Brighton's program looks to have returned to being a playoff contender with its 24-0 shutout win over Davis.

5. Travis Harper, QB, Northridge
Northridge senior quarterback Travis Harper threw for over 300 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 36-27 win over Jordan. Harper made key plays on third downs to guide the Knights over a solid Jordan team that had very high expectations for this season.

4. Maka Unufe, WR, Provo
Provo wide receiver Make Unufe piled up 250 total yards and three touchdowns in a 28-14 win over Cyprus. Unufe caught two touchdown passes (90 and 70 yards) and also returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown.

3. Alex Mecheam, QB, Pine View
Pine View junior quarterback Alex Mecheam threw for 352 yards and five touchdowns while racking up 97 yards and a touchdown on the ground in Pine View's impressive 46-13 beatdown of Alaska powerhouse Juneau-Douglas High.

2. Alex Kuresa, QB, Mountain Crest
Mountain Crest junior quarterback Alex Kuresa threw for 372 yards and two touchdowns while running for another touchdown in the Mustangs big 48-27 win over Highland.

1. Nik Allred, QB, Ogden
Ogden senior quarterback Nik Allred threw for 458 yards and three touchdowns while running for 60 yards and two touchdowns as the Tigers rolled past Murray 32-13.

  • Bear River - a 27 point 3rd quarter leads Bear River to a big 60-34 victory over Logan

First Games
Three new high schools played their first football games on Friday. Stansbury (Tooele) played against Maple Mountain (Spanish Fork), while Westlake (Saratoga Springs) played against Delta.
